This page was last updated on 22 January 2003 I started teaching banjo just for fun to a couple of my friends. As time went on I had phone calls from people wanted to learn. At festivals people asked me if I did any lessons and that's what started me thinking on making lessons available through the mail. I have been teaching for over twenty years and I also run workshops for festivals, colleges and schools and I still teach on a One to One basis. Each lesson is designed to take you through the stages of learning bluegrass banjo at your own pace. Each book has two lessons (unless stated), explained in great detail and is accompanied with an audio tape. Each lesson follows on, for example if you are a complete beginner you would need to start with Lesson 1. Basic Rolls etc. Then once you have learnt this, you can go onto Lesson 2 where you will learn two new tunes learning new techniques and using techniques you have learnt from Lesson 1. This procedure carries on through the entire lessons and gives you the ability and confidence to play proficiently. There are bonus lessons too that you can purchase once you feel you are getting on well, with these lessons you can learn up-the-neck solos to tunes that you may have covered, licks, tunes in different tunings etc. Click BANJO TAB to see an example of one of my lessons WORKSHOPS I can do banjo workshops for festivals, clubs, colleges and schools. The workshops would cover BEGINNERS & INTERMEDIATE WORKSHOPS which would include Tuning Your Instrument - Roll Patterns - Exercises - Scruggs Style - Melodic Style - Different Tunings - Chords - Looking After Your Banjo. Each student will get a book with this information in it and an audio tape.
